Back To The Origins: Watch This 1860 Steam-Powered Motorcycle In Action!

This motorcycle appearing in Russia is the delightful throwback to a technology of the 1860’s that would come to inspire steampunk.

This uploader, Virtuoso, claims this bike was originally built in 1869, which would make it one of a first prototypes of the vehicle to ever exist.

While there are competing claims for a first true motorcycle, and this one is the Roper steam velocipede (or at least the very impressive re-creation).

This famous bike was built by Sylvester H. Roper, of Roxbury, Massachusetts, and who would show off his invention at various fairs and circuses.
