Ford, please take note for when the Ranger comes back.
Ford pretty much has the entire pickup truck segment conquered. The F-150 is the best selling vehicle in America and reaps in profits by the truckload while in Europe, the smaller Ford Ranger gets all the love. The only problem is that unlike its bigger brother, the Ranger doesn’t come in a trim level that makes it the ultimate off-road plaything like the F-150 Raptor. So instead, UK-based tuning company M-Sport (not to be confused with BMW’s almost-M cars) made one.
To do so, the tuner took a double cab Ranger with a 3.2-liter inline-five diesel engine and gave it a host of upgrades. Disappointingly, none of these upgrades make much of a difference to the engine output. External cosmetic add-ons give a nod to the F-150 Raptor with a front bumper conversion, hood lip and wheel arch extensions, and blacked out wing mirrors, door handles, side steps, wheels, a tailgate, and grille with Lazer lights.
Inside, the truck gets spruced up as well with a sport steering wheel and black leather that extends everywhere from the seats to the armrest and door trims. Not all of the upgrades are purely cosmetic, because a Pedders suspension system and a sport exhaust help give the truck a better ride and more of an attitude.
Meanwhile, an optional off-road package (which should be standard on anything claiming to have some Raptor DNA) lists the suspension by 1.75 inches, adds underbody protection with an extended hard top load cover, and places a Lazer light bar on the roof. While we highly commend M-Sport for helping modify the Ranger to be one of the coolest mid-size trucks on the market, the pickup would be much better if it had more power.
We hope that Ford takes note and makes a Ranger Raptor. The Ranger is slated to make a reappearance in the US in 2019, and when it does it will come with a host of engine options. If Ford can make one of those the twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 from the F-150 Raptor, we’re sure the sales department will be quite happy.
